GLIFY Members Receive President’s Volunteer Service Award 2018

By Ashley Zhuang

The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes, celebrates, and holds up as role models Americans making a positive impact as engaged and deeply committed volunteers. This year, 26 GLIFY members—up from 16 last year—received this award, accumulating a total of over 4000 volunteer hours. Eleven members received the Gold Award, six received the Silver Award, and nine received the Bronze award.

Throughout the year, GLIFY organized many events and activities to provide members with community service opportunities, such as the Cookie Baking Fundraiser, Talent Show, Flea Market, Mental Health Seminar. Additionally, GLIFY’s band, 7pM, performed in local senior centers and various community events. GLIFY also contributed to the special needs community by helping out with Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN). Our volunteers taught art, dance, and Lego classes. Other community service activities done through GLIFY include planting trees with Living Arroyos, serving food at senior centers with Open Heart Kitchen, serving food in the Tenderloin district with SF City Impact, and volunteering at the Alameda County Fair. Additionally, members earned hours by helping out at school, Boy Scouts, White Stags, Chabot Space and Science Center and more.
