*Note: The age category is determined by the age the person was for at least 7 months within the 12-month calendar year. For example, if the person was 16 for 7 months within the year of award application, that person would qualify within the 16-25 age group.

The general volunteer eligibility to apply PVSA are listed below:
United States citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States (i.e., green card holder);
Completes eligible service within a 12-month period for annual Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards.
Awards are issued for volunteer service only. Additional levels of participation with the organization (i.e. charitable support) are not a factor considered for the award.
Court-ordered community service does not qualify for the award.
Awards are issued by approved Certifying Organizations.
Service must be with an organization that is legally established in the United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or one of the territories
Volunteer eligibility to apply PVSA through GLIFY:
Must be in the 6th grade or above for the year of service award.
Must have volunteered for three or more GLIFY-organized events*.
(*Note: GLIFY-organized events include, but are not limited to Alameda County Fair, Christmas Shoebox Packing, Crayon Sorting, Fertile Groundwork, Food Bank, Kids Against Hunger, Family Help Center, Living Arroyos, White Pony Express, Family Giving Tree, Adopt a Senior for Christmas, Reutlinger Music Performance, etc.)
Teens (11-15 years old) must have 50 or more volunteer hours, with 20+ hours from GLIFY organized events.
Young Adults (16-25) must have 100 or more volunteer hours, with 40+ hours from GLIFY organized events.
The 12-month period is Sept 1st to August 31st.
